The filigree steel-glass construction provides a protected transition from the headquarters of E.ON Energie AG in Munich to the annexes. To open the roofed in courtyard area when the weather is suitable and permit natural ventilation, the 20m high by 8.30m wide facade can be swung open like a gate around its offset central axis. Hydraulic drives on the lower and upper axis bearing make it possible to noiselessly open and close the 24 t structure within about one minute.
In the closed position, the gate is locked in place at the sides and at the one-third/two-third positions by four hydraulic rams. To reduce currents of cold air, the steel structure is heated on the inside; the supply and return lines are located at the bottom axle bearing. The upper axis bearing is located on the approx. 18m x 18m underpinned roof. A rigid transverse girder provides the necessary stability and houses the smoke extracting flaps. The lighting and sprinkler system are integrated into the sections of the roof structure.
