The Surround Sound sculptures are interactive art pieces located in the public area of a shopping mall in Dubai. The installation consists of several glass tubes up to 4m long fixed to the floor. The tubes can be accessed by the public and respond to touch by modulating light and musical tones. knippershelbig consulted on the structural design of the system, suggesting a simple glass tube approach and performing glass design as well as suggesting and designing the base detail. knippershelbig also coordinated a pendulum impact testing program to verify the strength and post-breakage performance of the glass tubes.
