The city of Ludwigsburg is Germany's most sustainable medium sized city (awarded the German Sustainability Award 2014).

A clear and simple style, accompanied by translucense, lightness and material warmth produce a comfortable, sustainable and statically efficient space. With the overlap of urban planning (pp), infrastructure architecture and structural design (KH), a suitable screen made of wood was developed for the location. It consists of wooden spokes with a cantilever spanning up to 15m, resting on steel columns. The roof consists of translucent photovoltaic elements, allowing a high quality of daylight underneath. The interconnected wooden umbrellas support each other by the staggering of the steel columns. Since wood sequesters CO2, increasing the wood mass is a significant contribution to the overall sustainability of the structure. More (wood) is less (CO2)!
