Emma-Schwab-Haus Day-care centre
In the two-storey building the day-care centre Emma-Schwab-Haus in Stuttgart-Freiberg combines all eight groups of the institution, altogether around 200 children, under one roof. The significant and protecting structure is formed by the roof, which can also be understood as the fifth façade. In the north and the south it opens towards the outer area. The subordinate glass facade is unobtrusive due to its delicate structure. The design idea of the architects is to reconcile all functions. This entailed the realisation of large roof projections formed by rigid slabs in a timber frame construction. The wooden joist ceiling is also constructed as a rigid slab and comprises the bracing of the building in combination with the solid lift core. The building fulfils F30 standard.
