Kruunusillat Bridge
The 2.2 km long bridge structure blends the robust simplicity of the truss girder with a technologically advanced material: ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC). Synergies arising from this combination lead not only to a very slender and elegant re-interpretation of the tried and trusted structure type but enables for a highly sustainable and maintenance-friendly bridge.
Advantage will be taken of the five to ten times higher strength of UHPC compared to conventional concrete by using pre-stress technology for most of the superstructure components. Furthermore the unique density and low permeability to gases and fluids of this innovative material makes it highly resistant to both physical and chemical attacks resulting in a durable and low maintenance structure requiring no additional protective measures. Based on a semi-integral design approach the use of maintenance-intensive bearings is reduced to a minimum. The extremely low material consumption and its high durability save resources and thus allow for a very efficient and sustainable design.
