The project entails the design of an innovative stage envelope on the rooftop of Pier 17 in Manhattan, New York. The stage envelope is a temporary structure, which covers the stage deck and the stage’s technical plant during the summer period. The client envisions an “iconic piece of public art” for this prominent location. The stage envelope shall therefore present itself as a “unique architecture”. Supported by thin steel columns, the stage envelope consists of fiber-composite structure with an additional layer of ETFE foil for weather protection. The fiber composite elements are designed and built using advanced material technologies, structural analysis, manufacturing processes and construction methods. The canopy structure will be the first of its kind in the U.S.
